Well....
I picked up another ASUS 475 mobo and it just so happened it had an internal 4 port USB header packaged with it.
Before dismatling the other system - I thought I try the header and plugged it into the internal jacks on the mobob.
After a reboot - and resetting 4 USB headers to 8 in the BIOS all was fine and my USB functionality was restored.
To confirm I tried the rear ports - but alas no go.
Strange....now I have a perfectly good mobo from ebay minus it's internal USB header and a semi okay asus mobo without rear ports.
Should I sell the new one - or should I sell the defunct one with the proviso that the rear ports dont work - but hey - here's an internal jobbie that fixes all that for free....
Hmm....probably better to sell the good one and put up with the old one - it's no inconvenience as long as I dont need more than 4 ports.
PS - what could have caused this malfunction? Power Supply 5V rail? It's a new generic 400w Maybe ditch it before it does some more damage....?
