137GB, which can be overcome via 40-bit LBA support. That's not a limitation of FAT, which AFAIK could, theoretically, support a disk of any size. But since e.g. FAT32 divides your disk into 2^32 blocks, as disk space increases the minimum block size eventually becomes unreasonably large.

Over the network, it is the responsibility of the host system to actually manage the disk at the read/write level; the client merely has to view it and make read/write requests to the host system's OS.
