mhhh.. aside from some 15 bettles salvaged mostly from junkyards, this is my first German car ever.. I am a fan of Bugatti, Alfa Romeo, Duesenberg, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Citroen and Maserati, in no particular order and have driven most of those at one point (except for Bugatti and Duesenberg...  )
Well engineered is also a matter of taste.. I am in favor of the "Close Enough" paradigm like the one where St Peter asks the mathematician, the physicist and the engineer that they need to kiss the beautiful girl before getting access to heaven but .... every step can only get them half of the distance to the girl...
Needless to say that the mathematician and the physicist give up immediately because they realize they will never get there...
whereas the engineer takes one big leap, grabs the girl and smooches her... with the comment: "close enough"..
Now, that is my understanding of "Well-engineered" which probably does not apply to BMWs...
