Thanks for the help.

Can anyone suggest sites for further reading to bring myself up to speed from socket 7 days?

I don't see anything at lostcircuits about the AMD sempron. Is there another name for it?

Is Mother Board tag ram and amount of memory still an issue or is all that anchient history with L2 cache on the CPU?

I'm looking for a low end system (cheap). I assume I need a MB with dual channel. Any suggestions?

I read motherboard reviews in MaximumPC magazine and their low end selection was a ChainTech. That led me to ChainTech boards and I'm looking at Socket A 7NJS which has 3 memory sockets and supports dual channel (cheap). The chip set is NVIDIA nForce2 SPP + MCP-T. I would use an AMD Sempron with the latest BIOS for that board. The manual says one of the memory sticks should be in slot 3 for dual channel. I assume that means the DDR must be in pairs for dual channel?

This all started when I bought a 160g WD hard drive. I don't want to spend $30 for an ATA133 controller card to get past 137g barrier. I guess I'd rather spend $200+ for a faster (than my socket 7) systems. I'm running some old AMD K6-III+ CPUs on FIC VA-503+ as well as on FIC PA-2007 (They cache 500 meg). That's how out of date I am

I need to read, but where?

Thanks,
