Your mainboard = motherboard = MoBo for short how did your MoBo get cracked ?.
If the case was dropped or in a car accident the Hard Drive = HD for short could be broken to. HD's only can handle a little bit of shock.

Another warning I have is even if the HD is good you can not just plug it into any system & it will start working right for you. The Operating System = OS for short XP or any OS on the HD was setup just for the whole computer & the hardware you have plugged in at that time. So you may have to do a full OS install.

You could with a program copy the 10 gig to the 80 gig HD or you use both HD's in there also.

There was a big difference between the HD's maybe the video card & the RAM is better on the broken system to xtra RAM is always best to.
