Saving or restoration of a partition table or the MBR is a simple process from DOS. Do a search for these free small apps:
SRCBOOT.COM - Save/Restore/Check the boot record.
SRCFAT.COM - Save/Restore/Check the Fat Table(s).
SRCMBR.COM - Save/Restore/Check the MBR.
