Two things affect power, voltage & current if one drops or lowwers it needs more of the other, which is not good either cause you would end up beynold specs. I would bet that some engineers have found this problem & come up with a fix to the video cards which may have been put up online.
I would bet that the MoBo manufacture to cut cost has the AGP hard wired to certain voltages, you need more voltage to decrease the current these video cards need & a BIOS update would not fix it then anyways.
BTW this also means that we can not blame Nvidia's chipset for this problem.
