With as much spyware and other junk that is out
there now, being on this Linux box is kind of a
relief. I'm really not all that Linux "savvy". I
tried Mozilla last night and it locks up. So
still using Konqueror. I did Download the latest
Firefox for Linux the other night, so here I sit
with this file Firefox 1.0.3 Installer tar.gz,
thinking ..great now how do I stuff this in and
what kernal do I have? So that means go to Linux
Newbie BBS and find out the handy how to or
command line I need to maybe have a shot at it.
Lots of stuff is fairly easy if YAST has it, but
if YAST doesn't then you got to type in some
stuff and that's when I go "Duh"??????????

With as many boxes as you have, I don't see why
you don't just load Linux on one and give it a
whirl, at least for surfing the net. Keep in
mind Linux can see your winders partitions and
files, but winders can't see Linux partitions
and files. So anyone trying to get in on a Linux
box will have a rough time with Reisner File
system or EXT2 for that matter. Which is
probably why Spyware even if it gets in has no
where to go. You never run as "root" so the
farthest it can go is your desktop and the
directories it's looking for aren't there.

I decided to change a few things on my desktop
and up popped the screen asking for my "root"
password.Sites with cookies have a tough time
too, because here comes a box with 3 choices for
cookies, Just this one, all from this site, or
no none ever or something like that or reject
etc. Files can be deleted permanently from
Linux, never to be seen again, there is a
command line for this, just can't think of it at
the moment.

You might try Mandrake that I sent you. I
personally think Mandrake is a little easier to
work with than SUSE. When I redo Sonny's I think
that's what I'll put on his.For mine I'm going
shopping for a newer distro that has the NForce
drivers already built in. As I said no talent
installing this stuff unless the Linux built in
installer is really savvy! Then it's like
winders.
