I just upgraded to Sony SDM-HS75P 17" LCD display with some quite impressive specs:
8ms response time, 600:1 contrast ratio, 420 cd/m2 brightness, and digital input. In addition, it has a very ergonomic design, making me a very happy buyer overall. There is however one area of disappointment: the black color on the screen is more like deep gray than pitch dark, unlike my old sony trinitron display where black is shown, well, actually black. I've tried to tinker with all hardware and software settings through the monitor controls and software adjustments, to no avail.
I wonder if this is a prevailing shortcoming with all existing LCD monitors, or if there's more cause for concern.
