All menu items load an IDE/ATAPI CD/DVD driver by Acer that works on the majority of systems.

You don't have the channels mixed do you? (A CD and HD on the same IDE channel) The reason I asked is because there is an UltraDMA driver loaded that will not work on a system with ATAPI and UltraDMA drives on the same IDE channel.

The single chipset may also be the problem in that it may have problems with the UltraDMA driver.

Try this, look near the top of config.sys for the heading [PM] and under that heading look for the line that reads "DEVICEHIGH=UDMA2.SYS /O" and change it so that it reads:
"DEVICE=UDMA2.SYS /B /L".

Then reboot and select item #1 from the config.sys menu and see what we have.
