So you're gonna bench format and config the new drive b4 installing it into the system case with a selected image from your running system. Yeah, that's one way to do it and even works in the rare case the new drive install is for a sys w/o USB.

I just prefer the external cased drive to store the images, that way it can do double duty, new systems and the one down the road. Besides, the case with integrated USB converter and shipping is only $19 and if they don't have USB ports, there is always the CD option.
