Yep, and memory was very expensive and slow doesn't begin to describe those cassettes. I remember that first 10MB hard drive set me back a little over $900 and thought at the time I'd never run out of room. LOL I put it in an XT I built (8088).
My first exposure to comps was in college, first ya drew a flow chart, wrote the code, then sat down at a card punch machine, then piled the stack of punched cards into the reader and watched the output on one monster of a printer. The comp was a room experience then.
Its amazing how much things can change in one lifetime.
