We have seen barriers before in the past & I believe it was above 550 meg Hz up to 1 gig Hz.
Limits were designed to be broken as creative humans have solved the problems at every turn. We improve current methods to keep the price down & have new ways to turn if we really do hit a wall or barrier. I do know the problems will be solved one way or another & combinations there of.
I will admit thou that we waited a very long time to get a PC CPU with 64 bits, 16 & 32 bits happened fast on that scale. I bet 128 bit PC CPU's are not as far off as 64 bits was.
Ya in 20 years an xbox will seem like the power of a digital watch. Ever run a modern program on an real old computer ?. Very slow. Ever run old software on a newer computer ?. They more then likely give you some kind of an overflow error. Timers were not set up (programed) to handle the speed. Plus no one had accounted for the xtra ram memory & Hard Drive space. Should you care ? Oh ya we love all that xtra power, so we can waste it on all the cool stuff we can do with it. There is a need so bring it on. Someday we will have 3D computers. Now on the size, standard PC computers have not srunk that much over the years. CPU's I believe are bigger physical outside size only they can do hundreds of times more work. I say bring it on & the more realistic video games we will have then in the future. To me it takes to long for the next best thing to hit the market place.
