Only need a free compiler for a couple of months so gonna be satisfied with some demo version... checked om Microchips own page and they've got a version that should run for 60 days, should be enough. If necessary I can reinstall the laptop after that.

Cheap little bastards, yes, but surely needed to be cheap since it do happens that we create some smoke in the lab Well if you have any good advice in how to row&column them, let me know. We are using the 40 pin DIP of the chip, so probably don't need any more than that.
