SC, that distance seems to be a problem in Austrailia. Made it harder to get parts. The guy I talked to had been in electronics a long time. Computer tech for corporations,if my memory isn't failing, then was the Mod on GCW until he got ticked off at the crowd there. Posted as Zedy. Haven't talked to him for about 3 years. Had trouble with his IP connection alot.

I got into building computers about 1998. Had bought a prebuilt in 1995 when I raised hogs to keep my records on. A Packard Hell no less. Dx2-66, thing is still running far as I know at the local Fire Department. When I needed to upgrade I built my own.Lurked here, Sysopt and then LC when MS first started it and Hardware Hot Talk, gleaning eveything I could in the handy how to's. Then through that I kind of caught on, but as far as the electrical stuff, I get lost. Know when it's not right though.I can wire a house outlet and solder a few things, but other than that, I pass. LOL
I have enough grandkids with computers to keep me entertained building and fixing, but the neighbors out here have suddenly figured out I know how to fix them and here they come. Well most of the time I know how to fix them....electrical problems, I punt. That one board I sent Ludi would not post period. I got NADA, but while he has it running, he said it's a whip to get to boot. You have to flick switches (PSU, On/off and reset) to get it going. The other one I think is on and off and dying. One time it runs, next time it doesn't. Has trouble reading ram correctly and wants to run the processor in safe mode every time you reboot. Too flaky for me. Worth more in spare parts than to put up with it. Slot A board.

I live out in the Boondocks of South Central Kentucky. It's at least an hour's drive to find a computer shop and then they don't have anything usefull. So I shop online for everything. They just put the first stop light in my County when they built the new 4 lane. So we now have 1. Impressive, huh? Have slow, very slow dial up Internet.....rural living at it's best, I guess. At least we don't have party lines anymore. Guess that's progress.
