Is your machine overclocked ?
Why not disconnect floppy. Disable in BIOs, then try to boot install from CD.
Could be loose IDE Cable, bad IDE port, License issue with XP. e.g. Microsoft seems to be able to screw with your machine through the activation facility if you are up on the network. Have you tried to boot a CD or floopy with an Anti-Virus Scanner to see if anything is funny ?
A simple CPU Swap should not hurt ! 114 F is nothing ! Make sure CPU fan is clean and rotating.
If you swap CPU and system still bad, then CPU not culprit usually. Next try Mobo interchange, since you know CPU ok.
Are you using original CD to load software ? Is your CD Reader clean ?
Swap CD ROM Drives and try it...
Is your Power supply OK ? Can you see voltage settings in BIOS ? Can you see fan speed in BIOS ?
