I would think a stadard pair of convex magnifer lenses would even work, although unlike the Fresnel lens, the output image would be proportional to lens spacing (I think, i.e. it would go out of focus if you were closer or farther).

Maybe I can scare up an old pair of circular swing-arm magnifier lamps...hmm. A shame garage sale season is basically over.
