If you don't OC then sure get an Intel Mobo. MS (Doc) Did some reviews on them but if you OC(I most certainly would)for performance and value then go elsewhere.
SATA has about the same performance as PATA when comparing the same drive, however there are no Raptors (best n fastest) in PATA and most come with better warranty's then PATA... Plus the inside of the Case will run cooler because of the cable difference and finally most of the MoBo's will have SATA connects.
