As for onboard graphics, I think your fear -- speaking from first-hand experience -- is completely unfounded. Exclude such choices if you must, but the cost of your peace of mind will be to eliminate some rather nice mainboards from your list of possibilities. In fact, some of the Nvidia chipsets offer onboard graphics that should serve you extremely well if you're a non-gamer, and would still offer acceptable basic capabilities if you did fire up a 3D game.

Finally, I don't know how often LED checks over here these days (this site is, regrettably, almost stagnant) but he's at LostCircuits (http://www.lostcircuits.com/) quite regularly.
