Poke around the review archives at Ace's Hardware (http://www.aceshardware.com/). I don't recall if they had an article showing exactly what you need to know here, but they are a bit above the grade in knowing how to do proper workstation/server benchmarking and I believe dual MP and dual Opteron systems have been reviewed.

Regarding your disk subsystem, do keep in mind that a good SCSI drive will probably be more reliable than even a RAID configuration of IDE, and if you can adjust the budgeting to include at least a 2-disk SCSI config...
