The only thing that I know is that Dlink does drop firmware upgrade support on @ least the wired cable routers versions. I have a Dlink that works the only problem is the firware upgrade is old. Virus's & such are being rewritten to take advantage of certain routers so if the firware is not upgraded then the router can be more of a problem then a fix. So I purchased a linksys router & does not stay working, I will return it hope the next one stays working, as this model & the older version are still supported. BTW the Dlink was a loan back in system for now & my old router off brand did not work for more then 2 years. I also have a netgear hub & lost the uplink channel but the 16 ports do work fine. The one thing I noticed is all these things run hot, on my orginal bad router I took off the plastic top & did not help @ all.
