I have an MSI 845PE motherboard, P4 2.4 533 cpu with a standard intel fan & heatsink, 512mb 333DDr memory alongside a Radeon 8500 , IBM 120gig Hdd, CDR, DVD drive and a dual 450w PSU all in a skyhawk aluminium case.
I installed the MSI monitoring tool, and if starting up from cold, the cpu temp is around 30, but this rises rapidly to about 45-50 degrees celcius, even if the system is just idle. Running something more processor heavy sees this jump to 60 degrees after which the MSI monitoring tool kicks in and shuts the system down to prevent overheating ( I think it does this on 59 degrees
actually ). The system temperature ranges between 30 and 37
Thinking that I may be lacking some airflow, I installed a case fan in the front of the case. This had little to no effect. I then bought a bigger better cpu cooler kit, copper based heatsink, controllable fan going up to 6000rpm. Even after installing this and running it at 6000rpm ( which is extremely noisy ), I still have the same cpu overheating issue.

Can this be a problem with the cpu ? When replacing the cpu cooler, I've taken off the thermal paste ( or whatever you call it ) and reapplied a thin layer, this has had no change.

Any ideas whatsoever ?
