Although Ludicrous and Hugh and others are completely right with their physical statements, there's one thing that should be tested:
Drilling some small holes ( not 1 cm, more 2-3mm ) around the Die-area might lead some air flow to the rest of the CPU.
Please get me right, the whole idea of drilling holes in the middle of the core is absurd, but around the core (lets say half way from the die to the edge of the CPU) might indeed improve the cooling effect, because 1. youre creating a bigger surface on the heatsink and 2. Air can blow directly on the outer CPU area.
