Well, I actually don't care about ms anymore. They can do whatever they want. I run linux on my notebook (actually my main box) and I'm very happy with it.
I could now start writing a few pages of my view on ms, its policy and how much more I like linux...
but I better just say, FTL, download a distribution and install it on a spare box, start playing with it. I'd recommend the suse distro, it's a snap to install and after isntalling you can just start working, install more stuff, whatever you want.
I have recently put a larger hd into my note and there's still space for winders to be installed but I don't need it, linux can do everything just as well. and why pay for crap if you can get the good stuff for free? The only reason to keep a copy of winders somewhere is playing games. and for me, that really is the one and only reason. but even in the game segment, linux takes large steps... oh and, you can run almost all windows applications on linux as well (http://www.winehq.com/) (just wanted to mention that too)
