Can you connect to a metal water line or heat radiator ? I did that myself along time ago as the house then was 60 years old (no ground wire either). This could clear up your problem but hey your moving soon so the time would be wasted. Adding the second PSU would ease the strain on the main PSU basicly give the HD's there own PS & you may get a clean bootup every time. Then again most people do not like leaving there computer cases open let alone a bunch of wires coming out of it.
