What kind of latency were you getting on the lan? Average should have been under 40ms. How was your network laid out? Did all of the atendees have 10/100 NIC's?

The protocols installed on host computers can have a large inpact on network traffic. For example NetBoui tends to be a bit chatty. I like to see just tcp/ip installed, IPX/SPX if necessary.

How can you be sure you were not getting 100mbit throughput? Remember your network connection during a file transfer is only as fast as your HDD.
