I'm not sure about going back to Win98 after upgrading over-top of it with XP. I just know of a lot of people having problems actually doing it plus the fact it doesn't give you the performance that a clean install does. (Formated in fat-32 Vs NTFS, etc).
Atleast with a duel boot, if you don't want to use XP for what ever reason, Win98 is always there as a choice during the boot. If you have problems with your network or incompatability issues with certain software or hardware, you can boot back to 98 anytime you want. The old win-95 to 98 "go-back" doesn't leave you with anything but the wasted time you spent upgrading just to revert back to what you had.
