I believe that using ground to dump power thru is illegal. Ground is for people protection or sheilding RF energy. Ground fault is a measure of difference of outgoing & incoming current (AMPS) on the hot & neutral line, if there is a difference @ all the hot power is cut, not sure about the neutral line as I never tested that.
