At first, I didn't know that I should assign IP's. Since both machines were identical K7S5A win'98SE machines, they were butting heads during boot-up.

Boot time returned to normal once i assigned and IP address 01 to comp1 and 02 to comp2.

However, I've now enabled internet sharing on comp1 and am using DHCP for WINS resolution on comp2. This means that win'98SE is setting the IP on comp2.

I disagree about the AMR modem. It'm finding it to be amazingly fast. I've had hardware controller modems that couldn't come close. CPUID currently shows more cpu activity from moving my PS2 mouse than my AMR modem does while surfing.

Yes the AMR modem consumes clock cycles, but geeze at 1.5 GHz I think I've got a few to spare while surfing BBS's.

It's actually amazing to see just how fast I can dual surf with both machines sharing just one ECS AMR 56k modem via my Gateway on comp1. I can't see any noticeable degradation in speed on either machine.

I bet d/l's will suffer, but surfing just doesn't seem to be affected.

Yes, the AMR sucked big time when I had both machines letting win'98 set my IP's. But with that straightened out, this setup ROCKS!
