Hey fellow computer geeks. It’s time for me to rebuild my main computer. This computer is used for everything including web surfing, audio / video projects, and 3D gaming. I’m currently running the following:

Win 98 Se
Intel 820 MB
PIII – 933 MHz
384 meg RAMBUS PC 800 memory
60 gig 7200 rpm ATA 100 hard drive
Sound Blaster Live 5.1
Creative Dxr3 decoder
Hauppauge WinTV tuner / video capture card

And, I just bought a nVidea GFORCE 4 Ti 4600 video card with 128 meg.

I decided replace the motherboard, processor, and ram to fully utilize this new high dollar video card. I’ll reuse these components in one of my other machines.

I’m trying to decide between an Intel P4 2.0 GHz or the AMD Athalon XP 2.1 (1.73 GHz). The cost for these two options is about the same. My main concern is the 3D gaming performance of the AMD processor. From what I’ve read, the AMD will beat the Intel in everything but 3D Gaming.

I have never owned an AMD machine. I’ve built a bunch of Intel machines and I’m a little hesitant to try the AMD.

Do any of you have an opinion on this?
