Will the new drive automatically be called "D:" drive or will I pick the letter
manually and how can I change the drive letter for the new drive if need be?

What does the number of partitions of my current master drive (the old C: drive
that is being replaced) have to do with partitioning and formatting of the new drive?
By the way, the current master drive (defective drive) does only have
1 large partition, if that's important.
