I'm putting a replacement drive in my system because it looks like I got one
of the bad IBM 75GXP's. It has developed a few bad sectors and I want to get
the replacement drive in (Seagate 60 gig) and formatted, then use Ghost
to make a copy of the original drive, then replace the original drive with
the new drive. The new drive was free under warranty from the system maker.

So, I got the new drive hooked up as a slave drive. I go into BIOS and have it
auto detect the drive and set LBA on (as recommended by Seagate on
the sticker on the drive). The BIOS recognizes the drive as a 60 gig drive,
no problem so far.

Then I dl'ed the Seagate new drive installation software called "DiscWizard 2002"
to begin the formatting process. But when I selected the option to format
a drive I noticed that there was only my old "C:" drive listed, no new "D:" drive
or any other letter showing the new drive. So I couldn't select the new drive
to format it. Since it isn't even showing up in Win98SE.

My other drives are showing up in Win98SE as normal. My C: hard drive
is there as well as my E: drive (DVD) and F: (CD-RW). But no sign of the
new drive under any letter. What might be preventing the new drive
from showing up with it's own drive letter so I can access it to format? I can't
tell fdisk or the Seagate software to format the drive if it isn't being
designated a specific drive letter.

If it's being seen by the BIOS and recognized as a 60 GIG drive (even the model
number is showing up accurately in the BIOS), then I must have it connected correctly.
Right?

Any ideas on how to get this drive to be given a drive letter so I can format
it then begin the copying of the old drive to the new one would be appreciated.

Thanks!
