What make and model is the hard disk drive which you say is one week old ?

(BTW Did you know its harder for anyone to give relevant advice if you do not give a relevant description of the problem hardware ? )

Do you have a boot floppy ? If not then IMHO you should get one ASAP!

Booting to CD is potentially more likely to fail than booting to floppy since the development of the hardware started with floppy boot disc media and driver system is integrated in the hardware, so for most systems that is the last to fail, whereas booting to CD is not always reliable, especialy on older motherboards.

If the CDR is going to work it can work if you boot to floppy but only if you have the CDR driver on the floppy - floppy boot disks made in Win95 will not necessarily have a CDR driver and I am not sure the Win95 CDRom will be bootable either though I am not definite about that. But I have had Win95c for a while and CDRom support is a bit of a pain.

Therefore it is good to try a boot to floppy if you have IDE boot problems to check the Mobo is working and provide a platform for manipulating files and repairing the OS.

Only trying to help
