ok guys i am running windows xp pro and recently my drive started making weird noises and i was getting boot errors like "the file is missing or corrupt: windows/system32/system/config" i got that a few times but after shutting my computer down for a few hours, it would get back to normal. but today, it wouldnt boot normal, it would just make the funny noises like crazy. the drive is a 20 gb ibm 75gxp..i know ibm = crap. i then used the 6 xp boot disks to get into repair mode, ran chkdsk and i rebooted. i then was able to boot and got to the intro screen where i enter my password to get into my windows. then i got an error saying could not load my personal settings and somthign or other. then i got in finally but my desktop and other thigns were missing.. all my icons and things are missing but my programs are still in tact. they arent in the startup menu but still in the program files folder and still run. cany anyone help me get this drive workign properly? if i have any other options please let me know. here are my system specs if it makes a differnce:
ABIT VP6
2xP3 700 (not o'clocked)
dvd drive
512 ram
sblive plat
ibm 20 gb 7200 75gxp
thanks and anything helps!
