Subject: Extra odd computer problem

A friend of mine's computer will run through POST really fast, but then take about 15 minutes to boot into Winders. From there it will take several minutes to load and execute an app, and even just running MP3s will make it skip. Anyone have a thought on the problem? I've narrowed it down to four possibilities. (BTW, he's already changed the HDD cable.)
#1 Bad HDD
#2 Bad mobo
#3 Bad CPU (not quite likely here)
#4 A virus
Any other thoughts?
