If I understand correctly, you are going to change "some" file extension to ".jpg" so it will read as a jpeg file? I suspect it may not work, I think you have to actually convert the file to a jpeg format. I know of no other way to convert than to bring the file into a program that can read the old format, and is capable of converting it to jpeg. Good luck though, I will be following with interest.
