Once I used to have cable, but I can't afford it anymore so this is really killing me! Things seem slow enough with regular dialup, but this crippled version that I am experiencing is horrible. My download speed max out at around 1.5 Kbytes / second and pages take for ever to load.
Usually this type of problem can just be fixed by setting the correct maxMTU and maxMSS values o a bad MTU setting or another but this doesn't seem to be the case this time. I've ghosted a copy of my system drive that used to work properly, but this hasn't helped. I havn't changed any hardware either.
Here are some of my system specs and settings
-win98SE
-ABIT BX6 MB
-Rockwell ISA modem, using standard V90 driver (this worked fine before)
-maxMTU = "576"
-maxMSS = "536"
-PMTUDiscovery = "1"
-DefaultRcvWindow = "4288"
The only thing that I can think of is that my telephone lines are in bad shape. I recently moved appartments, but don't remember if the slowness started then. Is there any way to test the line quality? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks,
Hugh
