Which kind of satellite connection are you planning to get?

To the best of my knowledge, the two-ways work just like a broadband connection, and as long as you're setting this thing up from scratch, you may want to pick up an $80 home broadband router and just use it as a switch until you get your new hookup.

OTOH I understand that the one-ways (modem-up, satty-down) are a little less friendly and have to be set up on a single machine (since up and down are managed by two separate devices). However you could always install an extra network card in that machine, dovetail over to the other PC with a crossed cable, and use an internet connection sharing program...

Regarding Ben's "delay": Sledge posted some calculations here once, the jist of it is that the latency for the signal traveling (Satellite Company) => (Satellite) => (You) is about 300ms +/- (?) For a satty two-way, you get to double that (whereas a 56k uplink might add only 70-100ms).

Either way it works great for high-speed downloads, and generally isn't too harsh on sims and strategy genres, but really kills FPS games.
