Removing the battery let me get rid of the password prob, and was finally able to let Win98 install and configure......all this after stripping the whole thing down to bare bones, determined it was the video card memory failing that was causing all the problem, along with a hard drive that must have looked like a pitted windshield after driving through a two hour ice pellet storm this determined after running PC Check Diagnostic.....which I should have run in the first place.
