Assembler is not for the "beginning" programmer. You should at least learn C/C++ first. Then you can start learning Assembler and doing inline Assember directives through your C/C++ programs. If at that point you think you can handle full blown ASM, you can start programming in that environment.

As for me, I found the inline ASM to be adequate for my needs. Debugging ASM can be a real pain in the ass. It's fast, but not very sexy

I personally wouldn't waste any time on Java. Talk about a pipe dream.
