C# is a better language, and more of a merger of C++ and Java concepts. I learned C originally, then moved to C++, and I found it difficult to move to the new code in C++ because I was already proficient in C and could do so much more using the old code. Trying to learn a new flavor of a language you already know can be more difficult because of the "impatience" factor: why learn the new way and be reduced to "baby steps" when the old way seemed to work fine and you can do everything already?

So in that respect, it may be easier for you to just start with C#.

On the other hand, C++ is going to be a more portable language, so you will be able to program on more than just the Windows platform. However, I suspect that we're going to see more and more .NET compilers for most of the other OS's. There just aren't any yet (with very few exceptions).
