one day they are running fine and the next time you shut down you won't be able to boot up again. Thinking of this, it always did happen on a "restart", regardless of patches used, or chipsets or whatnot.

It is really unpredictable and I don't see any pattern in the history of usage, in all cases, it happened while the system was not overclocked. Maybe, the key to keep those IBMs running is to overclock ..
