Coolermaster, or at least the ones that came with CPU's I purchased, had a pre-applied thermal compound. Mine ran hot until I removed the "factory" compound and used my own. (In my case, the old "stuff" that Radio Shack sold years ago). It cut the heat by 3 to 5 degrees C. IMHO: A bad application of the compound or a warped heatsink or a combo of both could "pop" your chip when your running 1.2ghz or faster AMD's.
