managing drive letters....

I have a problem.
My Promise RAID controller is on a PCI slot.
It boots as Drive D:
All my proggies and Office etc are on a Proggie partition E:
When I remove my PCI card, of course all the drive letters change so now my Proggies are on E: and Winders has a hard time to find them etc....

1. Can I overcome this without a full reinstall?
2. Is it because maybe I have a Primary Dos partition on my RAID setup that's forcing it to the front of the drive latter chain?
3. If I slip in another HD with a Primary DOS partition on one of the IDE's and then remove my RAID , myabe it will boot up with the correct letters....Of course I dont really want this option 'cause its a little inflexible.

Booting up correctly without the RAID in would be the best option - but will all my proggies still work okay after I find them using the BROWSE facility each time it asks for them.....?
