The router does not spread bandwidth to the connected computers. It really does just connect two subnets (similar to a bridge, if you've heard that term before).

But since you pay for a certain amount of data per month _or_ a certain connection speed _or_ combinations thereof, you are somehow limited anyways.
But, again, since you pay for something, they have to give you what you pay for and you can use it for 100%.

I have, at home, an adsl 256/64 connection. I can suck 256kbit/sec 24/7 on that line and my isp doesn't complain - it's what I pay for.

So (actually, I wanted to say something different), say you have 512k link and a router connected to the modem. Then the router does not draw more bandwidth - you're still at 512k.
