I had the something similar happen with a Live! 5.1 OEM I was trying to install on a machine with WinMe and WinNT, no luck, even though the machine had handled my earlier Live! Value OEM just fine. It would show up in the device manager but with an error bubble.

Finally, I went into "update driver" and allowed it to search the CD, then selected the WDM driver version (instead of whatever it had tried to install before) and it worked thereafter...
