(Unfortunately - j/k) I tried the erase disk function, in DFT, as this seems to bypass the fdisk functions.

blurb sais it rewrites the boot sector to zero etc, and it was this (lengthy process) which cured mine. However I think there is an option to just erase the boot sector which might do it.

But then, do you want to keep drives which fouled up even with new firmware when you can swap up ? I know what my answer would be .
