The WD1200JB 8mb buffer appears to be a notch or even a few notches faster than the IBM.

but this is also more expensive which is my only comfort since I bought a 120 recently.

however my smug-factor is supported by IBM's proprietary head parking tech which automatically returns heads on power down and parks them off the disk surface on ramps unlike previous competitors, though I am not sure about the recent versions.

In any case they still have my confidence but they are not the only option.

I haven't seen any 120's in 60Gb form though, I think they are 40Gb platters and the info at IBM confirms this, ie you cant get 60Gb 120's so I hope its only a typo.
