I was reading up on the service paks and he doesn't know if he has any in or not and there is also a Compatibility Pak for games on WIN2K. I saw posts on the memory leak problem with 2K, so if he's never put any SP's in it that could be some of the problem. Especially when he installed House Party Expansion. Heavier load.
I assume (silly me) that you can't set in W2K to WIN98 compatibility mode like you can in XP Pro.

I would think HP would have all the driver updates, etc for his machine at their site. Far as I know he hasn't done this either. They may have the SP 2 also.

Still baffles me why this kid has W2K in the first place. Unless he's not even right about that? He said he had a WIndows 2000 machine.....uh WIN2K OS or they bought the machine in 2000? And he's calling it a W2K machine? Agggh so many more questions, huh? I asked him to tell me what OS it says on the General Tab in system.

Reason I'm thinking the above is Roller Coaster Tycoon...it has to have a patch to play on W2K according to their game site and NT Compatible.
Now Stronghold came out in Oct 2001, Safe Disk 2, but plays fine. But to run it in XP Pro you need to set it to WIN2K compatibility Mode, so that tells me the game will have no problems in 2K. Or shouldn't. So if his Cd-ROM is reading Stronghold ok, then that eliminates the CD-ROM Safe Disk2 problem. RCTycoon is 1999 and pre Safe Disk 2.THe Sims & LL are Safedisk, HP and HD are Safe Disk 2.

I had the game do this to me in Xp Pro (his problem) and I tried a reinstall with Annie's CD's. Didn't fix it, ended up being the SB Live Driver. I had to roll them back and DL the new ones from CL and install those and then the problem was gone. Ran OK in the beginning except it progressively got worse and finally was locking
in the game no matter what you did after maybe 30 min to an hour of play. The Sims is so finicky about it's Sound Card drivers But at this point I don't know what SC he has and I'm trying in the meantime to cover all the rest of the bases.
