Well, the story continues....

As you know, I got home, booted up and found Win98SE crashes out the IDE drives again. It was working fine on shutdown.

Now, my suspicions are aimed at my "Windows Updates" that I have downloaded and saved to CD. These are about the only thing I used this time same as last.

Tried putting in old BIOS and HP drivers. 98 found the PCI bridge and such, installed a bunch of drivers. Said it was happy. Reboot. It lied. No IDE channels, no improvement.

Decided to start again again again. Fdisk reports that both partitions on drive1 (98 and XP 32 / NTFS) and the part on drive2 (storage - FAT32)were all "Non DOS partitions" and active!

I can guess that XP did this to it's own and 98's drive for the Dual Boot sector, but what the futz is it doing anything to the "Storage" drive that would cause this?

I had to clear all, start over from scratch. Downloaded newest BIOS, 4in1s, and HP drivers. I had these, trust none of them.

So far, so good. 'course, I've been there before MANY times now.

Only slept two hours today.

I still think it was my updates - the "Shutdown Supplement" or the "Large Hardrive Cache" update.

Weird thing was it NEVER crapped out after I installed anything, only later. I was being anal about checking system and rebooting 'till my eyes were bleeding.

I'll keep ya informed. Let me know if you find anything.
